Mikey Musumeci, the reigning ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion, is set to make his long-awaited comeback next month against a formidable opponent in the world of mixed martial arts.
Scheduled for Friday, August 4, the much-anticipated co-main event of ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian will witness “Darth Rigatoni” defending his coveted belt against strawweight MMA king, Jarred Brooks. The event will be broadcasted live in U.S. primetime from the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Musumeci is widely regarded as one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners born in the United States, boasting an impressive record of five IBJJF World Titles as a black belt. His exceptional technical prowess has earned him the title of the best pound-for-pound BJJ competitor in the sport today.
Throughout his journey with ONE Championship, Musumeci has showcased his talents, most notably when he made his promotional debut in April 2022 by submitting Japanese leglock legend Masakazu Imanari. Five months later, he etched his name in history by defeating his long-time rival, Cleber Sousa, in a trilogy match, claiming the inaugural ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title.
In subsequent title defenses, Musumeci emerged victorious, defeating sambo star Gantumur Bayanduuren via unanimous decision in January, followed by a submission victory over 2022 IBJJF World Champion Osamah Almarwai in May, bringing his overall career record to an impressive 61 wins and 5 losses.
His upcoming title defense, however, presents a unique challenge, as he faces off against Jarred Brooks, an MMA fighter renowned for his all-around skills, remarkable cardio, and brilliant grappling expertise. Nicknamed “The Monkey God,” Brooks has displayed his dazzling abilities in ONE Championship, securing victories against high-ranked contenders such as Bokang Masunyane, Hiroba Minowa, and Lito Adiwang. Notably, he reached the pinnacle of his career last December by claiming the ONE Strawweight MMA World Title after a dominant performance against Joshua Pacio.
For Brooks, who is also a former 2012 Indiana State Wrestling Champion, this bout offers an opportunity to become a two-sport king and prove that his grappling skills are truly among the best in the world. Fans can expect an intense and high-stakes showdown as these two exceptional fighters clash for the ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title.
